Rick & Marla's Ballroom Dance Classes at
The Dance Place

Rick's Note:

As of February 2012, I have decided to hold dance classes here at my home in the Heights for our March classes rather than the Dance Place

There is a simple reason.  Since my concept of teaching private "group classes" is new, it will take time to build up my classes.  I have to assume the initial classes will be small.  A small class would not feel comfortable in the large dance rooms of the Dance Place, but would feel right at home at my house.

When our classes begin to grow in size, then I plan to begin offering classes at the Dance Place as well.

If you have a question, the simplest thing to do would be to email me by hitting reply to any SSQQ Newsletter or use my regular rick@ssqq.com email address.

About The Dance Place

Rick's Note: The Dance Place is the leading Ballroom studio in Houston.

Marla and I have taken private lessons from Phillip Stephens for two years now
(Phillip and his partner Michael Schedler are the owners of The Dance Place).

We have come to feel very much at home here.

The Dance Place is easy to get to.  Located in the Galleria area at 3300 Chimney Rock, the Dance Place is just three blocks from the Southwest Freeway.

You cannot help but be impressed when you enter the building.  This is a very beautiful studio.

The Dance Place has a dance floor that is the same size as the immense floor at Chandelier, perhaps even larger.  The Dance Place has specially designed walls that are removable just like our walls back at SSQQ on Bissonnet.  When they take those walls down, the size of the floor is incredible.

Our Ballroom group will benefit greatly from the Friday Night Ballroom Practice held at the Dance Place.  Every Friday evening from 8-10 pm the Dance Place opens their wonderful floor up for a night of dancing ($5).  This is the perfect opportunity for our group to practice our dance patterns and develop some muscle memory.

With this in mind, I deliberately scheduled a dance class on Fridays from 7-8 pm to take advantage of this built-in practice opportunity.  For example, in January we will cover the swirling Waltz Circle Turns from 7-8 pm.  While the material is fresh in our minds, we can stay and practice our material right on the spot from 8-10 pm.

The Dance Place just happens to be the location for the USABDA Second Saturday Ballroom Dance Event.  (USABDA: USA Ballroom Dance Association).  This event attracts the best Ballroom Dancers in the city.   Once we get situated, I fully intend to invite our group to participate with Marla and me at this exciting monthly event.

In other words, Marla agrees with me that there are many excellent benefits from aligning our Ballroom classes with a dance studio that specializes in Ballroom dancing.
