In late
September 2006, 38 intrepid members of our group plus two
party crashers explored New
England and Northeast Canada.
We went in
search of Nature's paintbrush plus the beauty of the rugged New
England coastline. Besides the sight-seeing, this was a golden
opportunity to learn first-hand
about the rich history of this famous area.
For many of us,
the trip proved to be an unusual combination of thrills and
frustrations.

As you will read in the coming pages, each port of call
proved to be as good as or BETTER than advertised.
Places like Acadia National Park, Martha's Vineyard, and
Portland provided marvelous scenery. As a nice bonus, the
two Canadian ports at Halifax and St John turned out to be
interesting as well. If you wanted scenery, you
got it. If you wanted adventure like biking, hiking,
or kayaking, you got it. And if you wanted history, there
was plenty of that. The 5 ports of call were a terrific
package.
However the group's enthusiasm was tempered by the continued
inability of our ship's crew to get us on and off the ship
in a timely fashion.
On two occasions, we had our
seven hour visits cut down to about two or three hours by
the incompetence of the "tendering crew".
And there were other disruptions as well. Every day
had its ups and downs. The problems with the crew explains
why this was the most 'uneven' trip I have ever taken.
And now it's for our story to begin.
