Formal Night

Marla's flyer very specifically said: GROUP PHOTO STAIRCASE IN FRONT OF SAVOY THEATER

When Marla and I showed up for our group picture on Friday evening, there were two cameramen and two other guests.   That meant out of 54 guests, 50 were missing.  This was pathetic.  The photographers looked disgusted.  As for me, I was dismayed.  Marla and I had shelled out $75 for the privilege of hiring these men for the photo shoot and only two people besides ourselves had bothered to show up.

As we stood at the top of the stairs on Level Four, five minutes passed and only one more person showed up.  It was now exactly 7:30 pm.  I have heard of "late", but this was ridiculous.  Why were so many people avoiding this important ritual?  Where was everybody??

I don't remember who it was, but someone walked down the steps to Level Three below to inspect the main entrance to the Savoy Theater.  They stopped and shouted, "They're down here!  They're down here!"

Marla and I quickly descended the steps.  Incredibly, over 40 people were standing INSIDE the doors to the Savoy Theater.  They were completely out of sight from our vantage point at the top of the stairs.  They couldn't see us and we couldn't see them.  Apparently most of them had been at a show in the theater and when it ended, they found it more convenient to mingle inside the theater than outside.

And what were they talking about?  They were all mad that Rick and Marla had stood them up!

Too funny.  As it turned out, 46 out of 54 guests were in the picture, a very high percentage.
